What is the NCCPG?
The NCCPG is a national organisation whose aim is to conserve and protect our unique heritage of garden plants, which includes species from all parts of the world. Most of the members belong to one of the 41 Local Area Groups. The organisation coordinates the National Plant Collections(R) Scheme. There are now nearly 650 Collections, each with its own plant specialisation, with the result that around 60,000 different plants are now protected for future generations. Several Collections are located in Warwickshire, including the Codonopsis Collection (see link below).

NCCPG Objectives
-  save our heritage of garden plants
-  document and propagate rare and endangered varieties
-  help gardeners obtain, grow and learn about a wider range of interesting and rare plants
-  encourage nurserymen to sell a wide variety of plants, not just those in current fashion
-  cooperate with Garden Trusts in garden conservation
-  help scientific research relating to the study and use of plants

You can support this work, help to conserve garden plants, rescue disappearing varieties (and enjoy a range of talks and activities), by joining the NCCPG and one of the Local Groups.

Warwickshire Group of NCCPG
The Warwickshire group meets for monthly lectures on various aspects of plants and gardens, from September to May. Garden visits are planned for the summer months. Interesting plants and seeds are available for sale and exchange.
Other activities include a Grand Plant Sale (usually early in May - see programme), and volunteer participation in restoring a group of historic Victorian Pleasure Gardens in Warwick (see below).

The annual NCCPG membership fee (£20 single, £34 joint) includes central membership of  NCCPG, gives free entry to Warwickshire Group lecture meetings, free access to meetings of other NCCPG Groups,  and subscriptions to the national magazine 'Plant Heritage' and our own newsletter. There is a special Student Membership at £5.

For more information about the Warwickshire group, contact the secretary, Brian Thomas (Tel: 01789 840699), the membership secretary E. Ballantine (Tel: 01926 335687).
